“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.'” – Matthew 9:37-38 (NIV)
Every person needs the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
During His earthly ministry, Jesus not only preached the Gospel but also demonstrated what true discipleship is. He intentionally invested in others, teaching, mentoring, and preparing them to continue His mission after His ascension. Today, that same call extends to every believer.
Jesus declared that the harvest is plentiful, meaning countless people are searching for hope, truth, and salvation. He also acknowledged that the labourers are few. This reminds us that while many are ready to hear the Gospel, not everyone is willing to answer God’s call to evangelise. As followers of Christ, we have been entrusted with the responsibility of sharing His love and pointing others to Him. We are called to be light in a world that is often filled with spiritual darkness.
God’s call to discipleship is personal and unique. As a teenager in high school, I remember missionaries visiting my school. Each visit stirred something deep within my heart that I could not fully explain. Although I did not understand it at the time, God was planting seeds that would later shape my life. After graduating, I surrendered my life to Christ. As I sought godly counsel and spent time in prayer, the Lord gradually revealed His purpose for me and taught me what it truly meant to become His disciple and to help others follow Him.
Today, people all around us are waiting to experience the transforming love of Christ. Our families, neighbours, co-workers, classmates, and friends all need someone willing to share the hope found in Jesus. Discipleship is not reserved for pastors or missionaries; it is the calling of every believer. When we respond in obedience, God uses our lives to impact others for His kingdom.
Today, God is calling you to take a step of faith and become a faithful disciple who leads others to Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us and restore us to Yourself. Thank You for calling us to be Your disciples. Give us willing hearts to share Your love boldly and faithfully with those around us. Empower us through Your Holy Spirit to make disciples who will also follow You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
